‘Kashmir is our lifeblood and Pakistan will always support our brothers’ and sisters’ right to self-determination’, Senator Sehar Kamran (TI)
‘The denial of right of self-determination to Kashmiri people continues to stain the collective conscience of the international community. It is high time the communityplayed its role in the securing this fundamental right for the people of Kashmir, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations and the wishes of the inhabitants of Kashmir’. This was stated by Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) on the occasion of the 26th Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed on the fifth of February all across Pakistan.
She further said that the Kashmir Solidarity Day is ‘our humble remembrance of theKashmiri struggle for independence and tribute to their innumerable sacrifices for obtaining the fundamental human right of self-determination. On this day, we the people of Pakistan renew our pledge of support to the Kashmiri struggle on political, diplomatic and moral fronts’.
The demand for the right of self-determination by the people of Jammu and Kashmiris a just and genuine one. The bloody history of the region is testament to the fact that the voices of Kashmiris cannot be suppressed with continued Indian aggression. They are a peaceful people, forced to defend their basic human rights, but willing to support and respect any legitimate peace process that incorporates the wishes of theKashmiri people. It is high time that this festering wound in the heart of the subcontinent was given the attention it needs, in order for the region to heal and come together in a meaningful manner.
