Senator Sehar Kamran cautioned the government to adopt a careful and vigilant approach in dealings with India on Kashmir and water disputes and stop seeing them through business prism approach.
President Center for Pakistan and Gulf Studies (CPGS), in her statement lauded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Delhi visit to attend oath taking ceremony of his Indian counterpart PM Narendra Modi.
She said that attending the oath taking ceremony of Indian PM was desire of Nawaz Sharif, it could be a good will gesture and equally good for relations with India.
In the backdrop of some highly offensive statements during Indian elections, Senator Kamran cautioned that ties with India are very sensitive but it’s more important to defend respect & integrity of Pakistan.
Analysts believe that this occasion will provide an opportunity to devise a strategy to move forward towards peace in the region and normalize ties with India but at the same time Senator Sehar Kamran stresses upon, “Saving national interests including Kashmir issue and water disputes as sovereignty and dignity of Pakistan must stay supreme.”
Senator Kamran futher elaborated by saying, “a successful foreign policy reflects the aspirations of the people, this should be a key factor in developing relations with any country particularly with India and in that sense PM Nawaz Sharif must portray the same during his meeting with his Indian counterpart ” Sehar Kamran added.
