28th July, 2016: Senate’s Pakistan-KSA Friendship Group met today at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS). The Convener of the Friendship Group, Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) informed the group members about the engagements she has had with the members of the Saudi Majlis-e-Shoora, the Saudi Ambassador as well as meeting at the OIC, in her capacity as Convener. Senator Kamran said the Saudi members are willing to collaborate with their Pakistani counterparts and want to focus on developing relations in the sectors of education, helping Pakistani diaspora residing in KSA and enhancing inter-parliamentary relations.
The members appreciated the role of Convener and her proactive approach in taking such timely initiatives. Senator Kalsoom Parveen said we must enhance inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries. Senator Dr. Ghous Muhammad Khan Niazi said the visit of the Senate’s Friendship Group to Saudi Arabia would facilitate the process of establishing better relations between the legislators of both sides.
The Friendship group unanimously passed a resolution condemning the deadly terrorist attacks which occurred recently in Saudi Arabia. The group expressed solidarity with the people of Saudi Arabia and said Pakistani people stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their Saudi brethren in these testing times.
