Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) has welcomed the arrival of the first major Chinese trade convoy at Gwadar. The convoy’s departure from the port will mark the official launch of trade under the mega-project China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). She further praised the vision of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, the Former President Asif Ali Zardari, recalling that the landmark project proposed by the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang was in fact initiated by the PPP under President in 2013, and will last until 2030.
Senator Sehar Kamran reiterated that CPEC has the potential to become a ‘game-changer’, not only for Pakistan but for the entire region. It will connect and help integrate South Asia, China and Central Asia, and benefit the billions of people residing here. She stated that Pakistan is fully committed to China’s One Belt-One Road initiative and the CPEC, which will bring a new wave of development, infrastructure and progress in Pakistan, especially the under-developed areas.
Senator Kamran further stated that the development of Gwadar was essentially part of the greater vision of the PPP leadership for the prosperity of Pakistan and the region. She highlighted that it should be remembered that it was Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who laid the foundation stone of the Fish Harbor Project when she visited Gwadar on December 14, 1989, and congratulated the nation on this landmark achievement.
