Islamabad 8th March, 2017: On the occasion of the International Women Day, Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) said this day is celebrated globally in recognition of the immense contribution by women in different fields of life. She said women in Pakistan despite being faced with numerous societal challenges have come a long way forward but there is still much ground to cover. Monumental challenges such as gender disparity are not only a hurdle in the growth of fe hampering the growth and development of the country, she added.
Senator Sehar Kamran said, women have played a significant role in Pakistan. Eversince the time of the country’s creation till today, in every sphere of life, Pakistani women have made valuable contribution. From Fatima Jinnah to Muhtarma Benazir Bhutto, women in Pakistan have proved their mettle, time and time again.
Senator Kamran said it is worrisome that Pakistan’s current female participation in the workforce is only 30 percent approximately and even that is marred by factors such as income inequality. She stated that there is an urgent need to utilise the potential of women as they have the full capacity to play a greater role socially, politically and economically. She said we need to focus on formulating and implementing strategies which promote employment opportunities for females, if we as a country want to achieve economic prosperity and development.
