Islamabad, 20th July 2017:Senator Sehar Kamran while speaking in the Senate of Pakistan today, on the discussion revolving around the Joint Investigative Team (JIT) report, congratulated the distinguished members of the JIT on presenting a comprehensive report based on facts and figures in record time. Talking about the mysterious money trail, she referred to a dialogue from the Pakistani film “Badnaam” (1982) based on Saadat Hasan Manto’s short story “Jhumke” and said despite all discussions and explanations, still no one form the government’s side can provide a money trail on any platform on how these assets were attained. She stated that who knows more accounts, more money trails, and more companies may surface in the coming days prolonging this crisis.
Senator Kamran said to hide the unknown remittance channels, the ruling family submitted tampered documents in the Supreme Court which is a serious crime. She said it would have been better for the country and for themselves to have stepped down and presented themselves for accountability but they chose the path of confrontation and conflict. She opined that instead of realizing and compensating their blunders, they have resolved to engage in pressure tactics through the “Gee Gee brigade of PML-N against the JIT members and the Honorable judges of the Supreme Court. She said it must be realized that these institutions have a constitutional duty given to them by the law. If we want to progress we must respect and strengthen our institutions, she stated.
Senator Sehar Kamran said instead of focusing and resolving personal issues, it would have been better if attention was paid to the rapidly evolving geo-political scenario both regionally and internationally. She stated our country’s integrity has been severely damaged under the current regime. She said it is extremely unfortunate that our foreign office has to write a letter to a Vice-President of another country requesting them to answer the telephone calls of our Chief Executive. We have to reflect on our standing in the international arena if we want the world to take us seriously as a country, she added.
