Islamabad, 22nd August, 2017: Senator Sehar Kamran on Tuesday, 22nd August, presented her Calling Attention Notice over the statement given by the head of US Defence Intelligence Agency Lt Gen Vincent Stewart Stewart and Director for National Intelligence, Daniel R. Coats in the Senate Armed Services Committee stating that ‘India may launch aggressive actions in Pakistan’ in May this year. She said the statement by the serving US DIA Chief has reaffirmed Pakistan’s apprehensions and concerns over the active Indian involvement and belligerence inside the country.
Senator Kamran said that she submitted this resolution in May 2017, immediately after the news broke out but it came out in Senate today as Trump announced the US policy for Afghanistan and South Asia. She opined that it is unfortunate that our government was not able to counter the negative impact and secure Pakistan’s interests.
Senator Sehar Kamran said that let there be no doubt that New Delhi has planned its complete designs to ‘isolate Pakistan diplomatically’ should also serve as a wake-up to Islamabad who so far seems to have failed in assessing and countering New Delhi’s tactics in its policy bid to harm Pakistan at any cost. She said the ‘Doval Doctrines’ and others threats to Pakistan’s territorial sovereignty cannot be ignored in the light of evolving geo-political scenario. She said such steps by New Delhi will only serve to escalate tensions and increase instability in the already volatile region of South Asia.
Senator Kamran expressed her concerns and said on one hand their DIA Chief has reaffirmed Islamabad’s apprehensions vis-à-vis its eastern neighbour but on the other Washington has been urging New Delhi to sign a Logistics Support Agreement that allows the two militaries to use each other’s land, air and naval bases for resupplies, repair and rest. She said the US has been actively promoting arms race in the region by selling arms, drones and nuclear submarines to India despite Islamabad’s concerns. Islamabad must convey its apprehensions to Washington in a more convincing manner, she added.
