Islamabad, 25th May 2018: Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) has welcomed the constitutional amendment bill clearing the way for the merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province passed by the National Assembly. She termed the merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas into the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as a historic day and a momentous occasion for the people of FATA and Pakistan.
Senator Kamran said the people of FATA have suffered greatly at the hands of the colonial-era draconian laws of the Frontier Crimes Regulation, and have been deprived of their basic social, political, and economic rights. She remarked that this development will usher in a new era of development and justice for the people of FATA as they will be finally able to enjoy the same constitutional rights as the rest of Pakistan. It will also help to curtail the state of lawlessness and integrate it to the mainstream, she added.
Senator Sehar Kamran further stated that the merger of FATA today is the fruit of the efforts, and contributions made by the Pakistan Peoples Party, and former President Mr Asif Ali Zardari who in 2011 singed the extensive political reform package making amendments to the FCR, thereby enabling the positive development which has taken place today.
