Islamabad, 16 January, 2016: The resolution, moved by Senator Sehar Kamran (TI), was passed unanimously in the Senate of Pakistan and called for condemning the statement by the Indian PM, Narendra Modi at the recent BRICS Summit, in which he refers to Pakistan as the ‘Mothership of terrorism’. She said the Indian Premiere’s statement, in which he draws a parallel between India and Israel in an attempt to evoke a parallel between Kashmir and Palestine, is another effort to sabotage the indigenous, on-going freedom movement in Kashmir by creating a new smokescreen and garnering international sympathy for India. She further said that Modi’s rhetoric has not been successful in amassing such attention from states or regional and international entities.
Senator Kamran said India is using all possible avenues to subvert attention from the human rights abuses prevailing in the Valley. She highlighted how, according to hospital sources, between 8th July and January 2017, over 12,000 innocent Kashmiris have lost their eye-sight due to pellet guns, or received bullet-related injuries.
Senator Sehar Kamran also reaffirmed that no matter the Indian media bluster, there will be no compromise on Pakistan’s defence or national security imperatives. She said Pakistan has been in a state of war against terrorism and extremism for over a decade now, and has made massive strides in this context. She reiterated that the country’s success record spoke for itself, and that international acknowledgment and appreciation of Pakistan’s efforts was further confirmation of these achievements. She also said that these efforts must continue to root out terrorism and extremism from the country permanently.
The text of the resolution moved by Senator Sehar Kamran in the Senate of Pakistan is as follows;
“The House strongly condemns the statement of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi attributing terrorism to Pakistan and drawing a parallel between India and Israel evoking a parallel between Kashmir and Palestine, during the recently held BRICS Summit held in Goa, India.
The House appreciates the reaction of International Community to this baseless propaganda by the Indian Prime Minister.
The House believes that the statement made by the Indian Premiere was an effort to divert the attention of the International Community from atrocities against the people of the Indian Occupied Kashmir.
The House reiterates that there will be no compromise on the sovereignty and defence of Pakistan and our resolve to fight against terrorism and contribute towards bringing peace and harmony in the world.”
