Islamabad, 2nd January, 2018: Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) has condemned the United States President Donald Trump’s tweet accusing Pakistan of deceiving the US and providing safe havens to terrorists in Afghanistan. She said Pakistan has been paying the price of being a US ally since 1979, and it’s high time that Washington should be conveyed that no more. Pakistan cannot be bullied into the US’s bidding anymore, she added.
Senator Kamran stated that the grossly exaggerated rhetoric of “giving billions of dollars to Pakistan” has in fact been the reimbursements and Coalition Support Funds, according to the agreement between Washington and Islamabad as allies, an amount which Pakistan had already spent more than what it has been reimbursed. She said Pakistan has paid the biggest price in the war against terrorism with the lives of more than 70,000 of its citizens and military officers, as well as suffered heavy financial losses of more than $100 billion dollars. She opined that the social fabric of the country has been damaged severely due to this war, impacting all sectors and segments of society.
Senator Sehar Kamran said more than anything the US needs to introspect why it has lost the war in Afghanistan despite in numerous resources and trillions of dollars spent over 16 years, instead of pinning Pakistan to justify their failure. No conflict can be resolved without accounting for the ground realities, and the fact is that Mr Trump has still a lot to learn where foreign policy and diplomacy is concerned, she added.
