Islamabad, 15th May 2016: While speaking at the Senate floor, Senator Kamran (TI) on the issue of dropping of discussion on implementation of Article 158 from delayed meeting of the Council of Common Interests said there is a constant denial of Sindh’s right to gas. She said we understand that the government is under immense pressure and is has already started the next election campaign but at the cost of what? Is it run by curbing the rights of small provinces or harming institutions? She said the Constitutional rights of smaller provinces are being violated and we can’t keep silent over these violations anymore.
On the topic of the government’s recent assault on freedom of expression, Senator Kamran said that she is baffled by the recent measures taken by the government against the freedom of expression. She said people are now afraid and unsure as to what can they say and what they can’t. It feels like we are living in a security state, she added.
Senator Sehar Kamran while talking on the Panama issue said that double standards are shown time and again against Pakistan Peoples Party where one Prime Minister was punished for 30 seconds and disqualified for five years whereas the other implicated in Panama papers got off scotfree. However, the stigma of Panama and Dawn leaks will follow the government even after their tenure ends, she added.
