Islamabad, 13th March, 2017: The resolution jointly moved by Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla on the revival of “Waseela-e-Haq” and “Waseela-e-Rozgar” schemes under the Benazir Income Support Programme was passed with majority votes in the Senate of Pakistan today. She urged the government to review its decision of the discontinuation of these scheme as they were initiated to provide employment opportunities and economic empowerment through small business loans and vocational training to the individuals from low income households.
Senator Sehar Kamran stated that Pakistan’s youth bulge which is said to be a source of great potential can also turn into a liability if proper opportunities are not provided to them. She said discontinuity of these schemes reflect a political bias. We need to move beyond party lines to empower people by uplifting their socio-economic status of the people who live near or below the poverty line, she added.
Senator Kamran said today we are fighting an intense war against terrorism and violent extremism. She said schemes like Waseela-e-Haq” and “Waseela-e-Rozgar” act as a deterrent against those disruptive forces which lure young people to join their ranks. She said this scheme must be reinstated as early as possible.
