Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence & Defence Production Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed on Friday visited the residences of Gayari avalanche victims Lt. Col. Tanvirul Hassan Shaheed and Naik Ansar Mahmood Shaheed and offered condolences with the families of both the martyred soldiers.
This was the first parliamentary delegation who visited the ancestral homes of the martyrs of Gayari incident to express solidarity and condolences with the families of martyred soldiers.
Flanked by Senator Farhatullah Babar and Senator Sehar Kamran, Mushahid Hussain Sayed said that the entire nation was proud of its soldiers who were observing their professional duties at the highest ever battlefield, Siachen.
On the occasion, Senator Farhatullah Babar conveyed sentiments of President Asif Ali Zardari and the government of Pakistan for the families of the martyrs. He said that the sacrifices of the brave soldiers and officers would not go in vain and the entire nation was proud of their forces.
Senator Sehar Kamran met with the mother, widow and other female members of Naik Ansar Mahmood and conveyed them the feelings of the members of the parliament.
Later, the parliamentary delegation visited the residence of Shaheed Col. Tanvir at Moza Wa’ala and conveyed their sentiments to the family members of the martyr. The Senators met with the brothers of Shaheed Tanvir while Sehar Kamran congratulated the mother of Shaheed Tanvir. She also promised to construct a school and dispensary in the village to provide health and education facilities to the people at their door step. She said that the whole nation is proud of the sacrifices rendered by the Pak Army in defending the borders of the country in such a harsh climatic conditions. She also promised to make Hajj arrangement for two family members of the Shaheed Tavir-ul-Hassan.
The mother of Col. Tanvir told the delegation that the Shaheed had requested her to pray for martyrdom for him around one month prior to the Gayari incident. She said that she was proud of her son.
Talking to media, Mushahid Hussain said that the entire nation was proud of their martyrs and their visit was tantamount to the commitment of the parliament and the nation with the families of their martyrs. He further said that the committee would act as a bridge between Khaki and Mufti. He stated that the role of media is crucial in this regard and he would make efforts to arrange some workshop for media in collaboration with ISPR to enable the media play an effective role in promoting and protecting the national interest in the emerging realities at regional and global levels.
He said that the defence committee of the Senate had decided to arrange functions on the graves of the martyred soldiers on the defence day on September 6 to acknowledge the sacrifices of their soldiers and the armed forces.
Farhatullah Babar said that the government and the parliament stood by the armed forces of the country and their sacrifices would not go in vain. Later, the members of the committee visited the grave of Shaheed Col. Tanvirul Hassan and laid floral wreath and offered fateha for the departed soul.
