Islamabad, 23rd August, 2017: Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) while speaking on the issue of Trump’s policy announcement for Afghanistan and South Asia said this speech by the American President is an admittance of the US failure in Afghanistan and trying to dump it on Pakistan.
Senator Kamran addressed the US President Donald Trump and said Pakistan has lost billions and billions of rupees in fighting this war against terrorism but what has the US achieved in the last 16 years in Afghanistan? She stated that it is highly unfair to point fingers on Pakistan who has sacrificed more than 70,000 lives in this war. She said we have sacrificed peace, prosperity and social fabric of our society but we are still being questioned over our intentions towards establishing peace.
Senator Sehar Kamran asked why the US despite its power and might has not been able to capture or kill Mullah Fazlulluah in Afghanistan who was the mastermind behind the Army Public School attack which resulted in the killing of 147 people mostly children?
Senator Kamran said Pakistan is not a weak country today as some may perceive it to be. Pakistan is a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. China Pakistan Economic Corridor is currently underway which will turn out to be a game changer for the region. She said today Pakistan is a zipper country and an economic corridor. We will not be subdued or put under pressure, she added.
Senator Sehar Kamran called for a joint session of parliament to discuss the implications of Trump’s new policy and devising a way forward for Pakistan. She said we must formulate policies though this Parliament to show strength and so that our voices could reach the US Congress and for that we need national unity. She said the same unity which the PPP government under President Asif Ali Zardari showed during the Salala crisis and closed down the NATO supply lines.
Senator Kamran also stated that labelling India a stake holder in the region is a continuation of the US policy of consciously pitting Pakistan-India against each other will only escalate regional tension.
