Islamabad, 14th December 2017:Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) while speaking at the adjournment motion on the issue of the recent sit-in at Faizabad questioned how did this group of people reached Islamabad without any hurdle, and held the twin cities hostage and paralysed for over 20 days? She said people of the twin cities suffered greatly during this entire ordeal of the sit-in as children could not attend schools, people couldn’t reach their work places and there were alarming threats to the Capital city which garnered Pakistan extremely bad international headlines.
Senator Kamran said the Interior Minister claimed that he could disperse the crowd in three hours but failed miserably and his lack of strategy was even criticized by his own party members including the former interior minister. She said instead of taking a firm stand, calling an emergency session of the Parliament or seeking its advice, the government totally surrendered. The government should have called the joint Parliament session, she added. She questioned the role of former Prime Minister’s son-in-law who stated that this dharna was a mission.
Senator Sehar Kamran lamented the death of seven people during the dharna and said who will be held responsible for this loss of life? She said that abusive language has no space in our religion. She further added that an unacceptable narrative was created, it is government’s responsibility to vet the statements and ask religious scholars to examine these controversial statements.
