Islamabad, 24th October, 2017: Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) on the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s visit to Pakistan said Islamabad must fully convey its concerns to the US administration. She said Pakistan’s contributions in the war on terror cannot be ignored and it is time that the US must do more to ensure that the process of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan goes on smoothly, because it has a direct impact on the security and stability of Pakistan and the region. She said the civil-military leadership must highlight the contributions, sacrifices, and accomplishments Pakistan has made in this war against terrorism (both physical and monetary), and achieved more than any country in the world in defeating the scourge of terrorism and extremism.
Senator Kamran pointed out the incoherent US policies especially in South Asia and said we cannot ignore the deepening US-India nexus, especially in Afghanistan which might prove to be detrimental for the peace of the region. Pakistan views and concerns must be taken into account, as the consequences of manufacturing an artificial role of India in Afghanistan will have counterproductive results in maintaining the regional peace and security, she added. She said the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the US are too significant to be put on a back-burner and both sides must exchange their views in an open manner for a meaningful dialogue.
