Islamabad, 15th January, 2018: Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) has strongly condemned the reckless comments made by the Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat stating that “we (India) are not going to say we cannot cross the border because they (Pakistan) have nuclear weapons”. She said irresponsible statements like these from highest Indian officials can seriously undermine nuclear deterrence in the region.
Senator Kamran demanded that the world ought to take notice of this careless statement made by the Indian Army Chief as it is reflective of the aggressive policy being pursued by New Delhi, while ignoring the ground realities and human cost of this volatile region. Such statements will not only prove to be detrimental for peace between the two countries but the region on the whole, she added.
Senator Sehar Kamran stated that India will be completely responsible for the repercussions if the Indian army violates the international boundary as it will be considered an act of war, and Pakistan will have to respond accordingly. She opined it is unfortunate that New Delhi is bent on a policy of escalating further tensions when the bilateral relations between the two nuclear armed neighbours is at an all-time now.
