8th March, 2018:On the occasion of the International Women’s day, Senator Sehar Kamran (TI) said since 1975, this day is celebrated across the world in recognition of the contribution women have made in various fields. She stated that today is the day when we acknowledge the contribution of women from every walk of life – homemakers, domestic helpers, farmers, labours, filmmakers, educationists, artists, doctors, writers, poets, media persons, legislators, and pay tribute to relentless efforts of Pakistani women for the development and progress of the country and salute their struggle for standing against dictators for the democratic rights of the people of Pakistan.
Senator Kamran said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has a long and glorious history of supporting women and empowering them. She remarked that due to the legal, administrative changes and opening of various institutions under various governments of the PPP, women today have making their contribution in all sectors. She stated that in this regard, today the ‘Karwan-e-Benazir’ rallies are being organized by the PPP across the country to celebrate its achievements, as well as to highlight the gaps to ensure equality for women.
Senator Sehar Kamran said in this regard, she made her humble contributions by sponsoring and introducing relevant legislations to elevate the status of women in form of the ‘The Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill, 2017’ as well as the ‘Inclusion of more female members in the Council of Islamic Ideology’, in the Senate of Pakistan. The need of the time is that women should be given equal opportunities, gender inequality be removed, and their potential should be utilized for the betterment of Pakistan.
