May 28, 2024: Sen. Sehar Kamran (TI), Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan and Patron in Chief of the Centre for Pakistan and Gulf Studies (CPGS), has expressed her heartfelt felicitations to the people of Pakistan on the 26th Youm-e-Takbeer (the Day of Greatness). She stated that today is a day of pride and jubilation, reminding us that the defense of Pakistan is impenetrable. She said that on May 28, 1998, Pakistan joined the select group of countries possessing nuclear weapons capability.
Pakistan acted solely in self-defense and restored the balance of power in the region, which was disrupted by India’s reckless nuclear implosions. She further affirmed that Pakistan is a peace-loving country, but this should not be mistaken as a sign of weakness. Pakistan neither desires a nuclear arms race in the region nor will it succumb to the blackmail of any regional country. Pakistan will continue its efforts to promote peace and strategic stability at both the regional and global levels.
Sen Kamran paid rich tribute to Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, for initiating the nuclear weapons program, and to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for carrying forward the legacy of her father and making Pakistan’s defense insurmountable and invincible.
Senator Sehar Kamran reiterated the importance of not forgetting the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who took a bold and courageous step to neutralize threats posed by neighboring countries in order to safeguard national integrity and sovereignty. As a nuclear weapons state, Pakistan will continue to pursue a policy of credible minimum deterrence and responsibility, aiming to enhance stability at the strategic level while ensuring peaceful resolution of all regional outstanding issues.
Senator Kamran also praised the efforts of scientists, engineers, technicians, and armed forces, whose contributions have made Pakistan’s defense formidable. On this occasion, she stated that the people of Pakistan from all walks of life, including civilians, military personnel, and scientists, are ready to make any sacrifices necessary to restore peace, stability, and ensure the prosperity and development of the country.
