Islamabad, 30th March, 2018: President Centre for Pakistan and Gulf Studies (CPGS), Senator Sehar has felicitated the nation on the successful tests of the Submarine Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM)-Babur. She said South Asia’s security landscape is gradually becoming unpredictable due to belligerent strategies and force postures adopted by the India.
Senator Kamran remarked that India has consistently been fueling a high tech arms race in the region by acquiring Ballistic Missile Defense System, Anti Satellite Weapons and nuclear powered Submarines. She said that without a doubt, the shift in national security strategies and military capabilities, would have a negative effect on the fragile security environment of the South Asian region and push the region toward a potential nuclear catastrophe. Consequently, these serious developments on Pakistan’s Eastern border and beyond are compelling Pakistan to take counter-measures without indulging in conventional and nuclear arms race, she added.
Senator Sehar Kamran further stated that Pakistan is pursuing a policy of Credible Minimum Deterrence (CMD) that essentially meant to safeguard national security of a country and making the enemy clear- the high cost of any misadventure. She said, in this context, off late, Pakistan’s Naval Strategic Force Command (NSFC) test of its newly developed Submarine Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM)–Babur, having a range of 450kms and ability to carry various types of payloads (conventional and nuclear). It is pertinent to mentioned that this is the second test of Babur, with incorporation of underwater controlled propulsion, advanced guidance and navigation features. She said she believes that this successful test, surely, will strengthen Pakistan’s second strike capability and would enhance the stability at the strategic level.
