Islamabad, 5th March, 2018: Senator Sehar Kamran’s bill titled “National Civic Education Commission Bill, 2017” has been approved from the Senate. She termed the passed of this bill as a victory for Pakistan Peoples Party, as it is in line with the progressive legislative agenda of the party. She also expressed gratitude to Chairman Bilawal Butto Zardari and the party leadership for their constant support for her legislative business.
Senator Kamran said this bill focuses on the need of civic education in Pakistan and considering its great importance proposes the establishment of “National Civic Education Commission” for the promotion of civic education through various channels.
Senator Sehar Kamran further stated that civic education and engagement are integral to raising moral and responsible citizens. “The establishment of such commission will help to promote Constitutionalism, Democratic Values, Human Rights and overall moral values of civilized societies. A combination of civic lessons in the curriculum and providing opportunities to volunteer with civil society organizations motivates the youth to be responsible citizens. In the absence of such civil channels, no wonder the youth in Pakistan have landed in the arms of extremist outfits. With the signing of this bill into law, there will be a revival of civic education and engagement in Pakistan which will bring about a positive change” she added.
